Mind Over Body

I have found that I get my second kick at about three quarters of a mile. Then I can settle in to a pretty good groove, get my breathing rhythm and just kind of shuffle along. My stride really isn't much more than a shuffle.

It's all about Mind over Body. My body is essentially a lazy thing. Been that way for over 50 years now. It doesn't tolerate pain well. My body is a Pussy. My mind is not much better. It is lazy and doesn't tolerate pain, but it occasionally gets disgruntled with poor performance and low standards. So it steps up sometimes and makes an attempt at a leadership role.

As I was running last night, the body really wanted to quit but the mind saw no reason. There was not much discomfort in the muscles and joints. In fact, considering the level of exertion, there was not much pain at all. The mind wanted to go for three miles.

The body was not happy about this but could see the benefit of trying to do more. An extra beer could be consumed. More dinner could be eaten without guilt.

I passed the front of the house which is the two mile mark and I kept going. It was here that the body began to protest. It's amazing how much pressure the body can exert to create a lack of will. I made it to the end of the block before I stopped.

I was still pleased with the outcome. I ran two miles in just under 24 minutes. Tonight I go for three.
