As I sit in front of the computer with my morning coffee (heavily adulterated with Bailey's Irish Cream), I am forced to ponder if the return of my gout knee has anything to do with my heavily adulterated coffee.
Yup! The gout is back and it really pisses me off. I have altered my diet to remove beer and sweets and grains, However, I have had lots of protein (meats) and that is probably where the purines are coming from.
It sure is frustrating. Yesterday I could walk, today...not so much.
8:58PM: The difference in the way I feel right now as opposed to how I felt this morning is astonishing. I am astonished. The astonishment I feel cannot be measured on an Astonishometer.
I believe the reason for the change is the two steroid tablets I took this morning. I had three tablets left over from the Z-Pack Dr. O'Connor prescribed for me last month. I took two this morning and I will take the last one tonight before I go to bed.
Being able to walk again without a limp is very encouraging to me to buckle down and do something with my diet to keep gout away.
Unfortunately, I am finding that the dietary change I am trying to make may collide directly into an anti-gout, anti-heart disease diet that I should also be following.
For now, I'm going to continue to eat eggs in the morning, along with the occasional slice of bacon or a slice of ham.
However, I am happy to report for now that I can walk again. And climb stairs. And bend over and pick things up. You know...like a five year old!
